DEFINITION & FUNCTIONS OF 'MIND' AND FACTORS RELATED TO ‘MENTAL HEALTH’.

The Explanation is as follows.

A) ABOUT DEFINITION OF MIND :-

‘Mind’ is one of the Basic Universal Energy Elements.
’Mind’ has a metaphysical existence. This Element is present in each and
every object including human beings.

‘Mind’ is also considered as a metaphysical part of the brain (limbic system). ‘Mind’ can also be considered as a ‘system’ through which the limbic system works, and carries out its function of ‘selecting and choosing’ the appropriate things , required for the proper functioning/behavior of the human beings. Thus, the ‘Mind’ can be called as the phenomenon of the brain (limbic system).

However, it must be noted that, the brain is one of the 12 main organs. All the 12 main organs are interconnected and interdependent on each other. If, all the 12 main organs are in good condition, then the behavior of the ‘Mind’ is also good, and, if anything goes wrong with any of the 12 main organs, then the behavior of the ‘Mind’ gets affected. As such, the ‘Mind’ is the collective metaphysical reflection of all the 12 main organs (all the Body systems, Sense organs and the Action organs are automatically involved).

Understanding of this concept/definition/description of Mind will help in understanding, how Physical Body affects Mind and vice versa. Once this concept is understood and realized properly, it helps in addressing all Body-Mind system problems/diseases/sickness/weakness etc.

B) ABOUT FUNCTIONS OF MIND:-

There is a qualitative difference between the ‘Mind’ of the human beings, and the ‘Mind’ of the other species. The main difference is the ‘Conscientiousness’. Due to the ‘Conscientiousness’, the human beings are able to identify and select between the good and the bad Thoughts, Emotions, Actions and the Behavior.

The major functions of the ‘Mind’ are 1) Thinking and 2) Emoting.

1) Thinking, Contemplation, Ideas, Imagining, Fantasizing, etc. are the activities of the similar type and it is a private conversation with oneself, which may or may not be revealed to the others.

2) Emotions can be generally termed as Feelings, Wants/Desires, Disposition, Moods etc. Emotions can be broadly classified as Anger, Fear, Sadness, Joy, Disgust, Curiosity/Interest, Surprise, Acceptance, Happiness, Love, Hate, Jealousy etc.

C) ABOUT FACTORS RELATED TO ‘MENTAL HEALTH':-

The Mental Health can be simply described as the health of the ‘Mind’.

Mental Health is a term used to describe the level of the cognitive well-being. Mental Health may include an individual’s ability to enjoy the life, and ability to take balanced efforts to do various activities in the life. Mental Health highlights the level of balanced thinking, emotional well-being, capacity to live a full and creative life, and the flexibility to deal with the life’s inevitable challenges.
Following can be considered as the factors related to the Mental Health.

1. A state of well being in line with the individual potential.
2. Managing normal stress and strain in the life.
3. Doing productive and fruitful activities related to the professional and social field.

Merely an absence of a mental disorder is not enough for the good Mental Health. Good Mental Health includes useful and fruitful activity for the individual, his family, and for the society at large.
